Dear Visitor, I am delighted that you are interested in learning more about the Bowie State University and the Department of Nursing. Bowie State University is Maryland’s oldest Historically Black Institution of higher learning. The university and department pride itself on producing leaders in nursing. Whether you are a potential student, current student, parent, alum, or potential new faculty/staff member, I hope you find the information on our website valuable and interesting. The department has a long history of providing a quality nursing education. Within the Department of Nursing, we are committed to creating a rich academic environment that is engaging for all of our community partners, faculty and students. We are committed to the core values of the university: excellence, civility, integrity, diversity, and accountability. The Department of Nursing currently has four programs: Traditional Baccalaureate program, Accelerated Baccalaureate, RN-BS and Graduate. Within the Graduate program, a student is able to focus on the Family Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Educator track. The graduate programs prepare students to take the national certification examinations. Our Traditional and Accelerated Programs prepare students to take the national licensure examination. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I encourage you to come back often for updates on courses and programs, special events, and news about the department. Please feel free to visit the campus and department to discuss opportunities we have to offer. Doris Clark RN, CNE, PhDChair Department of Nursing
