The Elementary Education Program prepares students for careers in elementary teaching. Students complete a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program of study and a sequence of professional courses in education, theory, and a method of elementary teaching. Students pursuing a degree in Elementary Education must complete 123 semester hours of course work. The undergraduate program in Elementary Education has a three-fold purpose: - To give students a solid knowledge base that includes a multi-disciplinary academic program of study, a knowledge of pedagogy, and a knowledge of learners and their characteristics.
- To give students an opportunity to practice a repertoire of best teaching practices.
- To encourage in students attitudes and skills necessary for reflection and problem-solving, and an attitude and belief that "learning to teach" is a lifelong process.
