         Professor Barbara J. Smith is the University Liaison for the Maryland State Educators Association Education Club of Bowie State University.  She has served as the undergraduate coordinator of Human Services, Coordinator of Elementary Education, Director of Student Teaching, assistant to the department chair for the undergraduate programs, acting department chair and department chair. 

        Professor Smith has also served on the BSU Commencement Committee, Homecoming, Founder’s Day, Black History Convocation, former Chair of the University Elections Committee,  organizer and former chair of the University Department Chairs Council,  chair the Elementary Education Search Committee, served on the Dean’s Search Committee, served on the Provost Search Committee, Coordinator of the Academy for Future Educators, Co-chair  the College of Education American Education Week Activities,  the advisor of the Maryland State Educators Association Education Club of Bowie State University. 

        Professor Smith is currently serving as the co-chair of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards I Committee.
