What is the Scholars' Studio Summer Experience?

The Scholars' Studio Summer Experience offers TRiO students the unique opportunity to develop as writers, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. Tailored to participants' needs, this intensive program builds confidence, offers a head start on college, and cultivates the academic and study skills necessary for success. Students who successfully complete this program may be eligible to advance into college-level writing.

Why Should I Participate? 

There are many reasons to participate in the Summer Experience. Here are just a few:

Who Can Participate? 

The Scholars' Studio Summer Experience is open to all incoming TRiO freshmen. Priority is given to students who placed into Developmental Writing and Reading.

Overview of Scholars' Studio

We recognize that today's college students must be prepared to enter a complex global society. In response, we have develped a dynamic experience to prepare students to integrate knowledge, solve complicated problems, and work collaboratively and ethically. This year-long program begins with the Summer Experience, which offers students solid grounding in critical thinking, team building, leadership, and academic skills. Students who participate in the Summer Experience report feeling better prepared for college and more connected with their peers. During the fall semester, students use the skills learned in the summer to explore an issue of social concern. They then develop and implement a plan to address this problem.
