The arts are an integral part of education. Each semester, we plan opportunites for TRIO students to access some of the resources available to us in the Baltimore/Washington, DC, area. All activities are free of charge forTRIO students and include transportation. We travel to plays, museums, performances, and other events—these opportunities are listed on our Events & Extras page and SSS calendar each semester. Cultural Events, Fall 2012 October 19th-20th: Achievers Leadership Retreat, Depart CLT parking lot on Friday at 2:30 p.m. & Return Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Challenge yourself on the high ropes course or cheer your fellow Achievers on as they reach new heights. This retreat offers leadership training, team building, s'mores, games, and lots of fun. RSVP 301-860-3299 23rd: Wicked, a play at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore, Depart CLT parking lot at 5:30 p.m. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery, and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular. Wicked follows these two unlikely friends and college roommates as they grow into two very different women: the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch. RSVP 301-860-3299 November 14th: In the Red and Brown Water, a play at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in College Park, Depart at 5:30 p.m. Join us for Tarell Alvin McCraney's play drawing on folktales, Yoruba mythology, and contemporary poets and playwrights.. It tells the coming-of-age story of Oya, a teenage sprinter looking for a way out of life in a Louisiana bayou housing project. RSVP 301-860-3299
