The Bowie State University PRISEM Tutoring Center was established in 1996 under the sponsorship of the Model Institutions for Excellence Initiative. PRISEM is the acronym for "Preparation, Resources, and Information for Success, Excellence, and Merit." The center has two locations: the Computer Science Building, Suite 107, and the Thurgood Marshall Library Annex, 1st Floor. Mission of PRISEMThe PRISEM Center seeks to provide a centralized and systematic approach to aid the academic supplemental needs of all students enrolled in undergraduate courses at Bowie State University. TutorsTutors in the PRISEM Center are both students and faculty who have an interest in the academic success of our students. Student peer tutors expressed an interest, applied for, and have been selected to serve upon recommendation of their department chair. Peer tutors must: - Meet the minimum requirements of the SEM Assistantship Programs
- Have earned a "B" or better in the courses in which they plan to tutor
- Complete an extensive tutor training program
- Attend monthly tutor enhancement workshops
