Hello! My name is Ricardo and I am the admissions counselor for your for Baltimore City, Baltimore County, parts of Prince George's County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, Ohio, and North Carolina. I am excited about your interest in Bowie State University and look forward to working with you. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can assist you in any way!

About Me

What is your favorite college memory?

My most memorable college experience was when I was voted the First African-American Homecoming King my Sophomore year at my alma mater, Wright State University.  I will never forget the campaigning, interviewing and praying.  When I arrived at the game the announcer said, "Your 2000 Homecoming King is....Mr. Ricardo McCrary!"  I was like -  WHAT?  Truly, it was a moment I will never forget and was so honored to have the opportunity.  Really, I was in tears later, but filled with so much joy and pride to have been chosen by my peers as Homecoming King.

What was the greatest lesson you learned in college?

The greatest lesson I learned in college was to make strong, sound connections.  The connections I made with administrators, faculty, staff, and students are still with me and strong today.  I believe that students cannot survive or succeed in college without making strong and sound connections.  By this I mean establishing supportive mentors, both amongst your peers, possibly an upperclassmen, and a staff or faculty member as well.  Therefore, students will get the support and guidance needed to forge through the sometimes lengthy and confusing processes we all have faced during our undergraduate times.  My advice to students here, at Bowie State, is to do what I did...MAKE CONNECTIONS, NETWORK!  Really. I even ask people to be my mentors as a staff member here.  I learned the importance of mentors while in school, and those role models - who are Presidents, Provosts, Vice Presidents, Directors, Deans, Faculty and Staff - are still as supportive today!  Make connections so that you will be better able to connect and assist others during college.

What is your favorite place on campus? Why?

My favorite place at Bowie State University is in the Wiseman Student Centre!  It's where the students are. The energy and social atmosphere is what makes this university great! People are personable, relatable and genuine.  However, my favorite place to look at is the middle of campus.  I tell you it is beautiful! The torch, and the gardens, if only more students were to just relax on the lawn! It is truly relaxing. But you can't beat the energy, laughter, entertainment and fun you'll experience in the Student Centre!
