Students with the drive to become entrepreneurs can enter the inaugural Business Plan Competition, sponsored by the College of Business. The top three student teams will receive monetary awards and will be considered for space in the new BSU Student Business Incubator.
Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the University during the 2013-14 academic year is eligible to participate. Ventures of all types are acceptable, such as sustainability, social entrepreneurship, social media, information technology, consulting, and financial services.
Each submission will be evaluated in three areas: business concept, written business plan, and oral presentation. The panel of judges will consist of successful business leaders, faculty, and alumni, as well as members of the Bowie Business Innovation Center.
Competitors must adhere to the following deadlines:
- Business concept statement submission deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 27
- Written business plans deadline:
Thursday, Dec. 19
- Oral business plan presentation, judging, and awards ceremony:
Monday, Feb. 3, 2014
The College of Business will offer a series of student workshops from September – December covering topics, such as the components of a business plan, legal considerations and oral communication. At least one team member should plan to attend.
Students accepted into the new BSU Student Business Incubator will receive coaching and mentoring in a nurturing environment of entrepreneurial experts. They will also participate in regional and national business plan competitions to further enhance and launch their businesses.
