The WonderWorks children’s theater company will debut its first full-scale performance for the 2013-2014 season on Thursday with the production of “Secret Life under the Stairs” at the Fine and Performing Arts Center at Bowie State University.
Directed by Professor Bob Bartlett, the interactive children’s play written by Kris Knutsen is suitable for audiences of all ages. It is about making friends and exploring imaginative worlds often lurking under the stairs.
The cast is freshman theater major Charles Franklin IV, junior communications major Janae’ Barber, freshman bioinformatics major Samuel Gold, and senior fine arts major Jesenia Edwards.
The play will be performed in the Black Box Theatre:
Tickets are $3 for children, $5 for BSU faculty, staff, students, and senior citizens, and $10 for general admission. The box office opens one hour before each performance.
- Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The WonderWorks company provides opportunities for BSU students to gain practical experience in various aspects of creating theater for young audiences. It also engages young audiences in reflection on ethical choices and constructive self-reflection.
“In this second year of our WonderWorks initiative, we’ve increased our programming by producing six events for children because we believe families in central Maryland are underserved when it comes to theater offerings for the youth,” said Bartlett.
