Are you up for a challenge to power up your writing? The Department of English and Modern Languages is encouraging everyone to test their creativity by writing a 50,000-word novel by the end of November as part of National Novel Writing Month.

Lethia JacksonDr. Lethia Jackson, chair of the Department of Computer Science, was named to the Prince George’s County Public Schools transition team to offer recommendations on how to improve the struggling school system. The team will determine the district’s needs by collecting data and conducting interviews to submit a report to the board of education by December 2013.

Quincy BrownDr. Quincy Brown, assistant professor of computer science, shared why she believes many young girls do not aspire to technology careers in a Washington Business Journal article about a national contest for girls interested in computing fields. Brown is a member of a regional planning committee for the National Center for Women & Information Technology’s Aspirations Program.

Rochelle DanielSeniors Jared Johnston and Omar Fahnbulleh, along with sophomore Curtis Pumphrey, were selected as CIAA Players of the Week. Voted the Offensive Lineman of the Week, Fahnbulleh played an instrumental role in helping the Bulldogs to a team season-best 557 yards of total offense. Named Quarterback of the Week, Johnston set a new BSU season passing yards record in the Bulldogs 76-19 victory over Lincoln University by completing 13-of-23 passes for 262 yards and two scores. Pumphrey was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week for blocking a field goal and returning it 70 yards for a touchdown. He also had six punt returns for 93 yards and three tackles.

Rochelle DanielProfessor Rochelle Daniel, coordinator of the public relations program, wrote an article published on the Public Relations Society of America website about tips to prepare students for the workplace. She draws on lessons learned from teaching her advanced public relations course and the feedback she has received from students.
