Anthony Lewis, region vice president of government affairs for Verizon, will address about 375 graduates at the winter 2013 commencement on Friday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. in the Leonidas S. James Physical Education Complex. The processional begins at 9:40 a.m.
The new commencement website has been launched to provide the latest details on attending the ceremony. Top graduating students are also profiled on the site.
In his role with Verizon, Lewis has overseen the corporation's interests in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia since October 2011. His responsibilities include shaping and advancing Verizon's public policy initiatives for the wireline, wireless and enterprise business segments. He also directs Verizon's philanthropic activities for the region.
He joined The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia, now Verizon Virginia, in 1986 and has held successive positions with increasing responsibilities in product line
management, traffic engineering and planning, sales, regulatory, public policy and marketing.
Lewis has a bachelor's degree in business from Elizabeth City State University and a master's of business administration degree from Johns Hopkins University.
