BSU team returns to HCASC nationals

A team of Bowie State University students won the right to compete against teams from 47 other historically Black colleges and universities in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), a national academic quiz bowl.

Cheer on the Bulldogs to CIAA Tournament victory

The BSU Bulldogs are the top seed in the Northern Division and will see their first CIAA Tournament action Thursday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C. They face the winner of the Johnson C. Smith University vs. Virginia State University game. The Lady Bulldogs’ tournament run was ended Wednesday with a 73-53 loss to Virginia Union University.

Dr. LaTanya Brown-Robertson, associate professor of economics, will support faculty redesigning their courses after being appointed as a Course Redesign Fellow for the University System of Maryland’s Center for Innovation and Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Dr. Brown-Robertson will work with a team of fellows to create training activities and workshops for faculty.

Panelists from Bowie State will highlight the importance of forming strategic industry partnerships to prepare students for leadership in science, technology, mathematics and technology (STEM), as such as BSU’s signature program, Education Innovation Initiative. The Feb. 26 conference, hosted by the global technology company Siemens, is designed to help increase minority representation in STEM and healthcare-related industries. The BSU representatives will be Yvette Caldwell, director of corporate & foundation relations; Dr. Anthony Nelson, dean, college of business; E. Wayne Rose, vice president for information technology & chief information officer; and D. Michael Lyles, Esq., chair, Bowie State University Board of Visitors.
