MS. GLADYS WATSON, B.S., M.A.

Currently serving as the chief housing officer since June 2005, Ms. Watson is responsible for providing leadership for ten full-time professional, one graduate assistant and thirty-four paraprofessional staff members in a residential auxiliary consisting of both traditional and apartment style living, serving 1364 residents. Key responsibilities include: development and implementation of residence educational programs; budget projection and management; development and administration; staff hiring, training, development and evaluation; student leadership development; implementation of department policies, procedures and guidelines; addressing inappropriate student behavior; crisis management and intervention and; collaborating with various departments across campus to provide top quality services to residents.

Prior to her arriving at Bowie State, Ms. Watson served as Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life at Bard College, Assistant Director for Residential Life at Binghamton University, Residence Coordinator at California State Polytechnic University, Community Development Coordinator at University of California at Davis, Assistant Coordinator for Residence Life at Rutgers College and Resident Hall Director at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Ms. Watson received her undergraduate degree in History and Political Science at Bard College and her graduate degree in Higher Education Student Personnel Administration and Counseling from the State University of New York at Brockport.

Ms. Watson actively engages in student affairs concerns and issues beyond the campus environment via her participation in various professional organizations such as American College Personnel Association (ACPA), National Association of Student Personnel (NASPA), Mid-Atlantic Association of College & University Housing Officers (MACUHO), Association for Christians in Student Development (ACSD),  American College of Counselors and Association of College & University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I) and, American College Counseling Association (ACCA). 

MR. RODNEY PETERS, B.A., M.ED.

Assistant Director of Housing Services, Residence Life

As the Assistant Director of Housing Services, Mr. Peters is responsible for coordination of Housing Services for 6 university residence halls. Major responsibilities include: coordination of facilities operations, to include pest control, housekeeping, maintenance, security services, development and implementation of the facilities renewal and replacement plan.  Fiscal responsibilities include, budget development, coordination of procurement, payment of bills and monitoring the departmental budget. 

He has served in this position since August of 2004.  Prior to this he served as Director of University Housing at Bowie State University from February of 2002 to July of 2004 and was employed as the Residence Life Coordinator at Bowie State University between March of 1987 and January of 1995.

Prior to his arriving at Bowie State he served in various positions in the field of student Housing to include; Director of Housing and Residence Life at Morgan State University, and Associate Director of Facilities and Operations at DePaul University.

Rodney Peters received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish from Morgan State University and his Masters of Education from Illinois State University.

Rodney has been active and involved in his profession over the years through participation in MACUHO and ACUHO-I.  He has served two years on the Executive Board of the Association of College and University Housing Officers International.

MR. KEVIN HUNTER, B.A., M.A.

MS. TRENITA JOHNSON, B.A.

Room Assignments Coordinator, Residence Life

As the Room Assignment Coordinator, Ms. Johnson is responsible for directing the housing assignment process.  Some of her responsibilities include:  managing the applications for new and returning students, coordinating housing assignments for new applicants, overseeing the Lottery Process for housing assignments for returning residents, managing the central office, creating publications and reports, as well as, managing the housing system, Odyssey HMS, which she was instrumental in bringing to the Office of Residence Life (ORL).

Ms. Johnson has served as the Room Assignments Coordinator since 2005.  Prior to this, she served as a Resident Director and Office Assistant with the department.  She also previously served as the Conference Services and Student Union Programmer with the J. Alexander Wiseman Centre and Conference Services and as the Logistics Coordinator for Pre-College Programs at Bowie State University.

Preceding her return to Bowie State University, Ms. Johnson was employed with the Baltimore City Public Schools System as a teacher.  She was also a Special Education teach with the District of Columbia Public Schools System.

Trenita is a member of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International.  She also serves as the advisor to the Residence Hall Association and is the present Chair for the BSU Staff Council.

Ms. Johnson received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1995 from Bowie State University.  She is in the process of continuing her pursuit of a M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology at Bowie State University.

MS. ANTONETTISHA BAKER, B.S., M.S.

Resident Director for Towers Hall, Residence Life

As the Resident Director of Towers Hall a predominately first year building Antonettisha is responsible for the supervision of 6 undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs).  Major responsibilities include: Coordination of spring and fall training for 34 RAs.  She also provides directions for Resident Assistants in confrontation, intervention, and documentation.  Antonettisha support her RAs through group and individual meetings to facilitate communication.  She utilizes student development theory to create learning experience for students in hall.  Work within the limits of her professional capabilities, to assist students who have academic, vocational, and personal concerns and make appropriate referrals when necessary.  Respond to and report all emergencies and serious situations while on duty.

Ms. Baker has served in this position since July of 2009.  Prior to this she served as a Resident Director at Buffalo State College August of 2008 through June of 2009. 

Prior to her arriving at Bowie State University Ms. Baker served in various positions within Student Affairs at Buffalo State College, this includes: Graduate Intern with the office of Judicial Affairs; Administrative Coordinator of the Residence Hall Judicial Board with the Office of Residence Life; Assistant Coordinator of Summer Orientation with the Educational Opportunity Department.

Antonettisha Baker attained her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Buffalo State College and her Master of Science in Student Personnel Administration as well from Buffalo State College. 

MS. LATOYA WALTERS, B.A., B.S., M.A.

Resident Director for Tubman Hall, Residence Life

As a Resident Director for the Office of Residence Life since November 2009, LaToya Walters is responsible for providing an educational environment for individuals, student groups and other members of the University Community.   In addition, LaToya is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the living/learning environment of her assigned residence hall.

Prior to her arriving at Bowie State University she served as a Counselor and Resident Director with the Precollege Programs at the University of Maryland, College Park, Student Support Services Intern at Hampton University, Graduate Assistant for the Dean of Women at Hampton University, and T.E.A.C.H Early Childhood AmeriCorps member at the Child Care Services Association in Durham, North Carolina.

LaToya received her baccalaureate degrees in Psychology and Family Consumer Sciences from North Carolina Central University and Master of Arts in Counseling from Hampton University.

LaToya is a participant and scholar of the Ronald McNair Post Baccalaureate Program at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a current member of American College Personnel Association, and the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals.

MS. MARSHA SWINDELL

Marsha Swindell serves as the primary contact for calls and visitors to the Office of Residence Life. She works closely with the Director for Residence Life and the Assignments Coordinator and manages the day-to-day administrative operations of the office.  She is also the Building Manager for Goodloe Apartments.
