Bowie's State University Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) Prevention Center was established in May 1998 by the Maryland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration for the following purposes: - To reduce binge drinking on campus
- To provide research-based information about the nature, scope, and consequences of students’ use of alcohol and other illicit drugs
- To implement the use of a science-based peer education model to educate students about alcohol and drug use and consequences associated with misuse
- To train students to become Nationally Certified Peer Educators
- To identify the link between serious problems and alcohol, i.e., poor academic performance, vandalism, violence, dropouts, date rape, and death.
