Personal Values and Academic Achievements While attending Bowie State University I have made many achievements that contribute to my success. I was awarded the highest award of the institution, the Student Leadership award, which was given by the President. I also received the Outstanding Student Award for the entire College of Arts & Science, the Outstanding Communications Student Award, the SGA President's Circle Award, the Student Athlete of the Year, and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All Academic Team. I have been on the Dean's List every semester at BSU with a GPA of a Cumulative 4.0. My personal values help me receive these awards because my dedication and passion allowed me to devote myself to accomplishing many things.
Why did you choose to attend Bowie State University? I chose Bowie State University so that I could play collegiate sports for their Women's Basketball team. I also chose this institution because of its proximity to my hometown, Baltimore.
What professor/s has had the most impact on you and why? Professor O'Brien, Dr. Shea and Professor Tammi Thomas have impacted me the most while attending BSU. They have helped me matriculate into a wonderful young lady who is prepared for the work world and life after BSU.
How has Bowie State helped to enhance your cultural experiences? Being that I am a transfer student from a predominately white institution, I was glad to be embraced by people at a historically Black university. It was a different environment and allowed me to explore different cultural experiences and relationships.
Next Steps I will be attending Johns Hopkins University in Fall 2010 for my master's degree while working at the Social Security Administration as a student intern.
What extracurricular activities and community service have made a significant and positive difference in your life? The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C), where I was the president. This group has truly made a difference in my life. I was able to impact other athletes to be great student leaders and be involved on campus. To me the greatest thing in life is to help others.
