Founded in 1865, Bowie State University is the oldest Historically Black Institution of higher education in the state of Maryland and the fifth oldest in the country. As a member institution of the University System of Maryland, Bowie State upholds the System’s mission of providing high-caliber, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for its 5,500 students. In addition to its 23 undergraduate majors, Bowie State offers 35 master's, doctoral, and advanced certification programs with specific focus on the arts, science, technology, business, education and related disciplines.
To celebrate the founding of Bowie State University, we will honor the achievements, contributions and accomplishments of faculty, alumni, corporate and community leaders, and organizations that have had a significant impact on the university. Awards will acknowledge the personal efforts of the recipients and the outcomes they have brought to the African-American community and society as a whole. The gala is the university’s signature fundraiser that supports programs and scholarships to ensure access for many pursuing higher education. Proceeds from the 2014 Founder’s Day Awards Gala will benefit the Ashford & Simpson Endowed Music Scholarship Fund.
Enjoy an evening of fine dining, music and live entertainment. The evening will begin with a one hour reception followed by dinner, a keynote address, award and video presentations, and live entertainment. We invite you to join us and share in the celebration!
