On Monday, November 5, 2012, BSU Department of English and Modern Languages Creative Writing Program will host a poetry reading by Tony Medina and Alan King in the Center for Learning and Technology, Room 102 at 1 p.m. Dr. Tony Medina is Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Howard University. Author of 15 books for adults and young readers, Medina's poetry, fiction and essays appear in over 30 publications and on two CD compilations. Alan King is a poet and journalist living in the DC metropolitan area. His poems have appeared in numerous journals. He's also the senior program director for DC Creative Writing Workshop. Nominated for both a Best of the Net selection and Pushcart Prize, his first collection of poems, Drift, was published this year. |
In October 2008, Nikki E. Owens, a junior at Bowie State University, received a Milton Pericles Darden III Memorial Scholarship from the Scott Lee Foundation during its First Annual Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards Reception. 
Dr. Marion Harris currently serves as Chair of Management, Marketing and Public Administration in the School of Business at Bowie State University. She was Acting Vice President for Administration and Finance Division the University for nearly two years. 
Originally from Leslie, Ga., Felicia Mensah received her bachelor's degree in pedology from Bowie State University in May 2008. While attending the University she often mentioned how she was positively influenced by faculty members Drs. Freddie Vaughn and Kim Barnett.
