Hosted by Bowie State University and Howard University, the two-day conference will bring together scholars and professionals who are experts in the area of social media to share their perspectives on the pedagogy and practice of social media, especially as it relates to higher education. It will combine panel discussions, posters sessions, roundtables and hands-on workshops designed to enlighten scholars and practitioners about social media and provide them with the knowledge to create and effectively utilize social media in different contexts. As social media continue to influence all areas of our lives, it is important to examine and debate not only the use of various social media tools in different contexts, but how they change the manner in which individuals, academics, business owners and the government use this medium. Scholar, broadcast journalist, television and radio station manager, Dr. Otis Thomas brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to his position as Chairman of the Department of Communications and Director of BSU-TV and WBSU radio at Bowie State University. 
Donna Broadway launched her writing career at Bowie State when she first became a contributor to The Spectrum newspaper, where she rose through the ranks to become Deputy Managing Editor during her senior year.
