Under the direction of Drs. Clarence Knight and Gilbert Pryor, Bowie State student musicians will perform the music of the late jazz saxophonist and arranger, Rick Henderson. Born in Washington, D.C., Henderson performed in Duke Ellington's Orchestra and led the Howard Theatre's house band. He also worked as an arranger and composer for jazz orchestras, military bands, and school ensembles. Among those who used Henderson's charts were Ellington, Count Basie, Illinois Jacquet, and Billy Taylor. |
