Description: As part of the annual media conference hosted by the Department of Communications, the reception will acknowledge the contributions of ten outstanding media leaders for helping to advance the progress of minorities and women in the media industries. Among them will be Cathy Hughes (Radio-One), Pluria Marshall (founder-chairman, National Black Media Coalition), Betty Hudson (former NBC executive and current EVP, National Geographic), Tim Reid (founder/owner, New Millennium Studios), Joe Madison ("The Black Eagle" radio show host, Sirius XM Radio), Jennifer Lawson (Sr. VP, TV & Digital video Content, Corporation of Public Broadcasting), and Marcellus Alexander (EVP, Television & President, National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation). |

In October 2008, Nikki E. Owens, a junior at Bowie State University, received a Milton Pericles Darden III Memorial Scholarship from the Scott Lee Foundation during its First Annual Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards Reception. 
Dr. Kehbuma Langmia teaches research and other media-related courses in the Department of Communications for Bowie State University. A graduate from the Television and Film Academy in Munich, Germany, Langmia has extensive knowledge and training in media productions and management. 
Originally from Leslie, Ga., Felicia Mensah received her bachelor's degree in pedology from Bowie State University in May 2008. While attending the University she often mentioned how she was positively influenced by faculty members Drs. Freddie Vaughn and Kim Barnett.
