Freshmen Placement Testing & Academic Advising

Q: Do I have to visit the university for Placement Testing & Academic Advising?
A:
Yes. It is required.

Q: Who do I contact to see if I am confirmed to attend Placement Testing & Advising?

You can contact University Testing Services at (301) 860-3295, and the Academic Advising Center at (301) 860-4072.

Q: What time should I arrive to Placement Testing & Advising?
A:
Arrive at the Thurgood Marshall Library Room #077 by 7:45 a.m. on the date of your scheduled program.

Q: What do I need to bring to Placement Testing & Advising Day?
A:
Please bring the following items: (1) immunization record, (2) photo I.D., (3) your Bowie State-issued student ID number and username, and (4) two No. 2 pencils. Calculators are not permitted.

Q: What will I be doing during the Placement Testing & Advising Day?
A:
You will take your placement exam (if needed) see an advisor and register for classes.

Q: What is the fee for freshmen?
A:
Freshmen will be billed $200.00 along with your tuition. This fee includes placement testing, advising and Discover BSU. Even if you choose not to attend Discover BSU, the fee will still be assessed.

Q: What time should I arrive to Placement Testing & Advising?
A:
Arrive at the Thurgood Marshall Library Room #077 by 7:45 a.m. on the date of your scheduled program if you have to take a placement exam. If you do not need to take the placement exam you will arrive at the Center for Learning and Technology Room #102 at 9:00 a.m.

You will take your placement exam (if needed) see an advisor and register for classes.

Q: I'm a transfer student. How do I know if I have to take the placement exam?
A:
You are exempt from the placement exam if you meet one of the following: (1) you are transferring the course equivalency of English composition and college algebra to Bowie State or (2) you have earned an Associate's degree from a Maryland community college. If you need to take the placement exam it will be indicated on your acceptance letter.

Q: Can I be advised if I have not submitted my transcripts from my prior university?
A:
No. All transcripts must be evaluated by the Office of Admissions prior to academic advising.

Q: What do I need to bring to Placement Testing & Advising Day?
A:
Please bring the following items: (1) immunization record, (2) photo I.D., (3) your Bowie State-issued student ID number and username, and (4) two No. 2 pencils. Calculators are not permitted. If you are a transfer student who only has to take one section, it will take approximately one hour to complete.

Transfers will be billed $100.00 along with your tuition. This fee includes placement testing, advising and Discover BSU. Even if you choose not to attend Discover BSU, the fee will still be assessed.
