MEMORANDUM TO: The Bowie State University Community FROM: Stacey Franklin Jones, D.Sc. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs DATE: October 6, 2010 POTUS Visit on Thursday On Thursday, October 7, 2010, Bowie State University will have the distinct honor of hosting a visit from the President of the United States, Barack Obama. He will be joined by Governor Martin O'Malley and Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown. Their purpose will be to encourage voter participation in the November election. Such an event highlights the importance of voting to ensure our right to participatory government and lends to a ‘teachable moment' for our students. Please note that while we are privileged to have such distinguished guests on our campus, this is not a university-sponsored event. As such, there are certain prohibitions regarding any official BSU offering of support to any particular candidate or group. You are asked to conduct yourselves accordingly. In order to minimize disruption during the day, be guided by the following: - When you arrive on Thursday, allow extra time for maneuvering the campus and locating parking.
- Be sure to display your campus parking permit, as only BSU registered vehicles will be allowed access to the campus parking lots.
- An arrival time no later than 10 a.m., and minimum vehicle exit activity thereafter is recommended until the event concludes at approximately 4 p.m.
Be reminded that classes will be in session as normal. However, if you plan to attend the event, you are to register online (click here) and follow procedures dictated by the organizers. We know that you recognize the importance of our selection as the venue of choice for this event, and that should the opportunity arise, you will do your part to assure that our great university is showcased on this national stage.
