(BOWIE, Md.) – The Halloween season is ripe with creative displays of pumpkin carvings, but students at Bowie State University take their designs to a new level.

Professor MesterEach year, Professor E. Clark Mester and the Department of Fine and Performing Arts host a Creative Pumpkin Carving Exhibition inviting any Bowie State student to submit their creation for a competition. Professor Mester also uses this annual event to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month through his costume choice.

The campus community is invited to view the pumpkin exhibition in the Fine and Performing Arts Center and select the most creative pieces. The first-place winner gets $200. The prize for second place is $100, third place is $75, and honorable mentions are $25. The pumpkins reflect a variety of themes and a range of artistic expression. The winners will be announced later in the fall 2017 semester.
