(BOWIE, Md.) – The Bowie State University football team is looking for its first championship title in the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) in Saturday’s matchup against Fayetteville State University in Salem, Virginia.
Bowie State captured the CIAA Northern Division title last Saturday with a 49-7 win over Elizabeth City State University The victory secured the Bulldogs’ ticket to their third trip to the conference's championship in the past four years. Saturday’s 1 p.m. game will be broadcast live on the Aspire Network.
After last Saturday's victory, Bowie State remains #4 in the NCAA Division II Super Region 2. The top eight teams in each of the four NCAA Super Regions are invited to the Division II Playoffs. Following Saturday's CIAA championship, the NCAA Division II Football Selection Show airs live Sunday at 5 p.m. on the NCAA website. BSU fans will watch the results together in the Student Center, Theater.
The Bulldogs are heading into the championship with top-flight talent. Senior quarterback Amir Hall became the CIAA All-Time Passing Touchdown Leader last Saturday by notching a record 98 passing touchdowns. He is just 91 yards shy of breaking the All-Time Career Passing Yards Record, currently held by Earl Harvey of North Carolina Central University.
Winning the university’s first CIAA football championship title would be a fitting end to the Bowie State career for Hall and the team’s other 22 seniors, who were honored at last Saturday’s game.
