Bowie State Hosts Fourth Sexual Violence Mini Conference

As part of a national effort to increase awareness and prevention of sexual assault on college campuses, BSU is partnering with the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) in hosting the 2011-2012 Preventing Sexual Violence on College Campuses Mini Conference Series. The next mini conference will feature a discussion of sexual violence and LGBTQIA community issues on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 7-9 p.m. on Bowie State's campus. The event is free and open to all Maryland and DC-based college students, faculty and staff.

The conference guest speaker, D. LaShay Harvey, will discuss the following topics as they pertain to sexual violence prevention and the LGBTQIA community:  

  • same sex sexual violence
  • sexual violence committed against LGBTQIA community members
  • working with LGBTQIA victims/survivors
  • concerns of LGBTQIA victims/survivors
  • resources for LGBTQIA community members who have been assaulted

The mini conference series is intended to provide ongoing educational opportunities regarding prevention efforts, trends and victim services.
