Project Management Program at Bowie State Earns National Designation

December 21, 2011

Bowie State University's project management graduate certificate program was recently designated a Registered Education Provider (REP) by the Project Management Institute, the international association which sets project management global standards and credentials.

The REP designation certifies BSU among choice institutions offering programs for professionals seeking globally-recognized credentials in project management.

Bowie State's program demonstrated first-rate project management training and met rigorous criteria for course content, instructor qualification and instructional design in order to earn REP status. Bowie State University is the only historically black institution with this designation to date.

Interim Dean of the College of Professional Studies Elliott Parris, Ph.D. sees great opportunities for Bowie State University project management students. "Project management is a rapidly growing field of study largely because the skills taught in the program are applicable to a variety of careers in areas such as information technology, construction, human resources, management, and behavioral sciences and consulting. Our program focus is from that of a humanistic perspective."

"This distinction gives our students and outgoing graduates the opportunity to compete for positions at a higher level," said Parris.

The project management graduate certificate program at Bowie State is part of the human resources development program and consists of five courses typically completed in one semester. All courses are four-weeks in length with the exception of one eight-week course to be taken simultaneously. For more information on the certificate program, visit or call 301-860-3100.
