Students Awarded Scholarships Through CIAA Essay Contest

(Bowie, Md.) - March 5, 2014 - Three Bowie State University students were awarded $1,000 scholarships through the Food Lion Essay Contest, as part of the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Basketball tournament.

The scholarship recipients are:

  • Vanessa Gyamfi, a sophomore majoring in visual communication and digital media arts
  • Taylor Beckett, a junior majoring in business administration
  • Kristen Williams, who is pursuing a master of public administration degree

The students were among 15 first-place winners. Sponsored by Food Lion, Coca-Cola and the CIAA conference, the contest asked each contestant to submit a 500- to 700-word essay answering the question, “How does my CIAA school impact my community?” The essays were reviewed by judges from Dream Builders Communications, an international training, coaching, public speaking, and organizational development firm.
