BSU celebrates Earth Day 2018
Creative and talented Bowie State University students on Wednesday, April 25 used spoken word performance to raise awareness of sustainability practices in the 4th annual Earth Day Poetry Slam, as part of the campus-wide Earth Week events last week, sponsored by C4. The top three winners: Obinna Onyima, Ashley Okoroh & accompanist JaQuan Frazier as a duo, and Allieu Kallay took home the cash prizes of $175, $100, and $50, sponsored by Coca Cola. The remaining contestants all received $25 prize for participating. The students delivered their creative expression to shine a light on how our actions have an impact on the health of the planet. Each performer was judged on delivery and creative content. Read more about the Earth Day Poetry Slam
On Thursday, C4 set out an Electronic Pledge table where BSU community members could f pledge their commitment to things such as recycling items, printing documents double-sided when possible, encouraging carpooling, etc. After signing the pledge, each pledgee gets the chance at the prize wheel to identify if the selected item on the wheel should go in the trash bin or recycle bin. Those who answered correctly won gift cards. BSU received over 30 pledges on that day.
