Off-Campus Locations

Bowie State University, located in Prince Georges County, offers its courses and programs at other locations in Maryland in order to serve a wider community.  Currently, the university is resident in Montgomery County at the Shady Grove Center (Universities at Shady Grove) in Rockville, Maryland and in St. Mary's County at the Southern Maryland Higher Educational Center (SMHEC) in California, Maryland. 

THE UNIVERSITIES AT SHADY GROVE (USG)

In fall 2000, The University System of Maryland (USM) introduced a new concept in advanced higher education. This was the beginning of the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Since its inception in 2000, USG has been transformed from a location for part-time evening instruction into a vibrant center serving more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

A few years ago as the third building at USG was completes a parking structure soon followed.  Tis significantly assisted witht he growing student population.  Over the past year a second parking structure was building with funds provided by Montgomery County. This second structure was part of an expansion project which will see the addition of a fourth academic building.  To see a rendering of this new building you can click here.

The manner in which parking at USG is changing this upcoming 2016-2017 academic year.  There will be an active parking program with the community paying for parking directly.  Click here to follow the link to the USG page which discusses the new parking program.

 

SOUTHERN MARYLAND HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER (SMHEC)

California, Maryland

The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center was established by the State of Maryland in 1994 to provide a regional facility with state of the art technology to serve the university and professional training needs of the Southern Maryland region.  Today, the Center hosts over 90 master's, doctorates and upper division undergraduate degree programs and in the fields of engineering (37 programs); education (34 programs); management; information technology; procurement and acquisitions; business administration; technical management; communications; human resources management; financial administration; nursing and social welfare.
