An Associate Professor of accounting, Symon Manyara holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Accounting, and PhD in Advanced Accounting. He is a licensed CPA, a Chartered Global Management Accountant, a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Accounting Association and Maryland Society of Accounting and Tax Professionals.
Dr. Manyara began his accounting career in public accounting. His research interest is in International Accounting and has presented papers at conferences and published in peer reviewed journals. He is a faculty advisor to National Association of Black Accountants, and he is involved in Principles of Accounting Course Redesign.
At Bowie State University, Dr. Manyara directed the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program for more than ten years. This program offered free tax help for low- to moderate-income taxpayers who could not afford professional tax services. He is currently serving a four year term with the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers.
