The Bowie State University Cybersecurity Academy offers 20-week courses to prepare you for five certification examinations to unlock career opportunities in cybersecurity. Or you can take an individual course for four weeks each. The full suite of five courses is $17,500, while each individual course ranges from $1,550 – $5,350. You are encouraged to complete the courses in the recommended sequence because each course builds on the knowledge and skills learned in the one before it. All the courses take place from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturdays in the Computer Science Building, room 113. The first courses take place from February 12, 2019 – June 29, 2019.
Here is a description of each course, when it is offered and how much it costs:
February 12 – March 9
This certification is the preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. This certification course teaches you the essential skills and information needed to install, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and perform preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.
March 12 – April 6
It is a vendor-neutral networking certification that is trusted around the world. It validates the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage and troubleshoot any wired and wireless networks. This certification requires key skills to troubleshoot, configure and manage these systems, enhancing company productivity.
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)
April 9 – May 4
This certification validates the ability to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including enabling basic network security. This certification covers networking fundamentals, WAN technologies, basic security and wireless concepts, routing and switching fundamentals, and configuring simple networks.
May 7 – June 1
The CompTIA Security+ is the certification globally trusted to validate foundational, vendor-neutral IT security knowledge and skills. As a benchmark for best practices in IT security, this certification covers the essential principles for network security and risk management.
InfoSec Ethical Hacker
June 4 – June 29
This course teaches the techniques to perform a white-hat, ethical hack on your organization. This certification enables the skills to quantitatively assess and measure threats to information assets and discover where your organization is most vulnerable to hacking. In this course, you will master a repeatable, documentable penetration testing methodology that can be used in an ethical penetration testing or hacking situation.
