When are the deadlines for applying for admissions?

April 1 is the deadline for submitting completed applications for the fall semester and November 1 is the deadline for the spring semester. Due to additional requirements and processing, the international student deadline for applying for the fall semester is January 1 and the spring semester is September 1.

What if I miss the deadline?

Admission to Bowie State University is done on a "rolling basis" as long as the institution is able to accommodate students. Priority consideration is given to those applicants who meet the deadline.

What constitutes a complete application?

A completed admissions application consists of the application, the application fee of $40, and official college/university transcripts. Official high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores are only required if you have less than 24 transferable credits.

How much is the application fee?

The application fee is $40.

What are the admission requirements for transfer students?

You must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average for at least 24 transferable credits from all other colleges and universities that you have attended to be admitted to Bowie State University. If you have less than 24 transferable credits, you must submit your high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores as well. A 2.0 minimum high school cumulative grade point average is required with a minimum 900 SAT score on the critical reading and math sections of the exam or a 19 ACT composite score.

What is the maximum number of credits I can transfer from a two-year and a four-year college?

The maximum number of credits you can transfer from a two-year college is 65 credits. The maximum number for a four-year college is 90. The maximum combined total is 90 credits.

How do I determine what classes transfer from my previous college?

You may view course equivalencies for courses taken at community colleges in the state of Maryland through the online ARTSYS system. However, if you took classes at a four-year college/university, the Office of Admissions will have to assist you in determining the course equivalencies. A transfer evaluation will be completed for admitted students once the confirmation of attendance fee has been received.

What is the confirmation of attendance fee for me to have my transfer credits evaluated?

The confirmation of attendance fee is $80. Transfer credits will not be evaluated until the fee is paid. They are done on a first-come, first-serve basis.Do grades less than a "C" transfer?If you have attended an out-of-state college or university, any grades that you have received that are less than a "C" will not transfer. If you have attended any colleges or universities in Maryland, a grade of "D" will transfer except in your major.

Who will be my advisor?

You will be assigned an advisor from your major after your initial session with an advisor from the advisement center.

How much does it cost to attend Bowie State University?

Tuition and fees for a full-time, in-state student for 2007-2008 are $5,939 for the year. Tuition and fees for an out-of-state student for 2007-2008 are $15,629. Room and board varies depending on the residence hall and meal plan chosen. Average costs for room and board are approximately $7,000 and books run an additional $1,000.

Are scholarships available?

Scholarships are available for students who have meritorious abilities in academics, fine arts and music, athletics, and ROTC (leadership).

Where is Bowie State University located?

Bowie State University is centrally located between Washington, DC (the nation's capital), Annapolis, MD (the state capital), and Baltimore, MD (the largest city in the state). The campus is easily accessible by car off of Route 197 from the Baltimore-Washington Parkway or Route 50, by MARC train from Union Station in Washington, DC, or Penn Station in Baltimore, by Metro from the New Carrollton Station, and by plane from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) or Ronald Reagan National Airport or Dulles International Airport.

Bowie State University offers four open houses. For 2007-2008, the dates will be October 20, 2007, November 17, 2007, February 23, 2008, and March 29, 2008. Is Bowie State University fully accredited?

Bowie State University is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Most academic programs have full accreditation through their departmental accrediting associations as well.
