Student Center receives reputable green certification

Bowie State University’s Student Center has received national recognition for having an exceptional environmentally sustainable design and earned the distinction of LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Summer dates announced for BSYou

The BSYou newsletter will be published once a month throughout the summer. The next issues will be distributed Wednesday, July 23 and Wednesday, August 27, which is the start of the two-day Faculty Institute.



TraVonne Walker, a senior visual communications and digital media arts major, designed the evening dress to be worn by the celebrity host of the McDonald’s 365 Black Awards in New Orleans next month. As the winner of the Harlem Fashion Row competition, Walker will also receive a $1,000 scholarship, as well as a roundtrip ticket and accommodations to attend the awards ceremony. The contest, co-sponsored by McDonald’s McCafe, introduces fashion design students at historically Black colleges and universities to career opportunities in the industry.

Dr. Andre Stevenson, chair for the Department of Social Work, was elected as an undergraduate program representative for the Council on Social Work Education, representing more than 2,500 individuals, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs around the country. He will serve a three-year term.

Dr. Traki Taylor-Webb, dean of the College of Education, met with prominent education leaders from historically Black colleges and universities last week to discuss ways to strengthen teacher education at their institutions at the 3rd annual HBCU Education Deans Think Tank. Outcomes from the event, which took place at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., will be compiled in a white paper and distributed to HBCU presidents across the nation. Dr. Taylor-Webb is pictured among other distinguished educators in a photo published in Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
