Biography

Audrey A. Lucas Brown, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at Bowie State University.  She holds a doctoral degree in Human Development and Psychoeducational Studies and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.  She is a licensed School, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Family Counselor.  Dr. Lucas Brown has extensive experience working with children and families, specializing in at risk student populations in K-12 and at the University level.  She worked as a school psychologist for 12 years providing assessment and counseling services for Elementary, Middle and High School students.  She also worked as a vendor for the Department of Rehabilitation Services providing psychological evaluations.  Dr. Lucas has six years of experience at the University level working as an academic advisor and counselor at both Bowie State University and Howard University; and one year as a Acting Assistant Dean at Howard University. Dr. Lucas Brown served as the first Coordinator of the Professional School Counseling Program at Bowie State University.  She has presented both locally and nationally on topics such as student retention, working with urban parents and dropout prevention.  Her research interests include cognitive and social emotional development, trauma and the assessment of children and adolescents.

Dr. Lucas Brown is a member and advisor to Chi Sigma Iota;  a member of the Maryland Counseling Association, Maryland School Counseling Association, the American School Counseling Association, National Association of School Psychologists and the American Educational Research Association.  .  Dr. Lucas Brown has served as a member and chair of on Special Interest Groups for the American Education and Research Association.  She has served as a board member for Healthy Babies Project, Inc. and the Family Health and Restoration Center.
