Blackboard Coordinators
A new institutional innovation was created in 2021 - Blackboard Course Development and Monitoring Coordinators (Bb Coordinators) – aimed at leveraging talent to positively impact Bowie State’s overall course preparedness/faculty training process. For all those interested in possibly becoming a Bb Coordinator at some point, please note the details of the job description below:
- Works closely with Academic Transformation and Academic Computing
- Assesses the state of all DEV shells for the department (ie, completeness, 7 core essentials, functionality, etc)
- Evaluation is ALWAYS objective, non-emotional, and based on structural design gaps (quality of structure rather than judgment of content)
- Determines the ideal DEV shell for each departmental course and identifies superfluous DEV shells if they exist
- Where DEV shells do not exist for a course, identifies an existing semester shell that is ideal for reverse engineering into a DEV shell
- Assesses all existing semester shells for the department in terms of which are no longer viable, necessary, or relevant (ie, based on age, emptiness of content, redundancy, etc); makes a list of those non-viable courses to be put in the pipeline for ultimate removal
- Works with faculty members/course coordinators to make all DEV shells complete, high-functioning, and rigorous for student success (acting as mentor and guide, NOT as a de facto instructional designer)
- Serve as department liaison to the office of Academic Transformation and Computing regarding Blackboard activities
- Communicate with full-time departmental faculty regarding their existing course shells and future desires for their courses
- Attend meetings where information pertinent to Blackboard activities for the department or campus community is discussed
- Help with undergraduate courses being developed for online delivery
