Friday, May 19, 2023 | 6-8 pm | The BOND Academy Day 1: The Opening Session 

Beacon Room - Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Nursing Building

On Friday, May 19, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, the BOND Academy Opening Session will welcome attendees to the conference and feature networking with sponsors, professionals, entertainment, food, and so much more. The Opening Session will engage attendees in a discussion about Race and Equity in Education and a hip-hop performance from a Black male educator, MRCRTR. Attendees will get an opportunity to network over delicious food provided at the opening sessions.

 Hip-Hip Performance: MRCRTR

MRCRTR, aka Corey Carter, is the assistant director of the Sherman Scholars Program at UMBC, a former middle school science teacher, and a hip-hop artist who raps about education. He was the 2016 Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) Teacher of the Year. Last year, MRCRTR released his first album entitled The Progress Report.

Saturday, May 20, 2023 | 8 am - 4 pm | The BOND Academy Day 2: The Keynote and Powerful Presentations

 On Saturday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Academy features an opening welcome and networking session, breakfast, and keynote from Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings Jr., featuring his book Getting Into Good Trouble at School: A Guide to Building an Antiracist School System. 

The Academy features powerful 50-minute presentations that challenge the perspectives of our audience while at the same time entertaining them and deepening their knowledge. The presentations are connected to at least one of the following domains: 1) Instructional Strategies, 2) Social Emotional Learning/Trauma-Informed Practices, 3) Educator Development and Empowerment, 4) Antiracist Practices and Social Justice, 5) Workforce Diversity (Recruitment & Retention), and 6) Community Partnerships.
