Wanda Durant to Deliver Commencement Remarks at Bowie State

(BOWIE, Md.) – Wanda Durant, affectionately known as “Mama Durant” and mother of NBA superstar Kevin Durant, will be the commencement speaker at Bowie State University’s spring commencement on May 24. 

Ms. Durant has dedicated herself to nurturing the potential in young people and providing them with the tools to pursue their dreams. As president of the Durant Family Charitable Foundation, she spearheads initiatives aimed at enriching the lives of youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic and social programs. 

A captivating speaker, Ms. Durant has graced platforms ranging from corporate and non-profit organizations, including college campuses and youth audiences, delivering messages of hope, resilience, and the power of belief.  

She has been the keynote speaker for several nationally and internationally known organizations including J.P. Morgan Chase, The Ford Foundation, Thomson Reuters, Brown Brother Harriman and has been featured in national and international media. Ms. Durant serves on the Board of Tigress Financial Partners championing financial literacy initiatives for vulnerable women nationwide. 

In 2022, the Foundation invested $500,000 in Bowie State University that renovated the basketball arena in the Leonidas S. James Physical Education complex which included installing a new basketball court, expanded seating and upgrades to the press box.
