Please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Continuing Education

With over 160 years of providing continuous educational experiences to students throughout this region and within the State of Maryland, Bowie State University is proud to be able to reach out to the high school level and provide young people with new and exciting educational experiences. This partnership with Prince George's County Public Schools serves to begin a continued effort on the part of the BSU to reach into the community to provide a variety of different services, interactions, and partnerships which will be mutually beneficial.

Enrollment

Potential and continuing dual enrollment students must complete the PGCPS/BSU Dual Enrollment Application located on the PGCPS website. This form is required for courses to be funded by the PGCPS system.

Once the form is submitted, BSU will be notified of the student’s eligibility to participate in the program and will review and approve courses based on eligibility and availability. Please note that BSU may request additional documentation to further assess a student’s eligibility for the program and their requested courses.

Dual Credit Courses

Students may take dual credit courses, which not only provide college credit but also fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Dual credit courses are college-level courses that have been reviewed and approved by PGCPS to satisfy specific high school course requirements.

Please review the BSU Dual Credit Course List (pdf). This list is updated as new courses are reviewed and approved.

Additional Courses Available to High School Students

There is a second list of courses which includes many that are commonly taken by high school students through the dual enrollment partnership with BSU.

This list is not exhaustive — students may appeal to take other courses; in which case we may request permission from the appropriate academic departments.

Some of the courses listed may provide both college and high school credit, while others may offer college credit only and do not fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Please review the List of courses available to high school students (pdf) for more detailed information.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Dual Enrollment program, students must meet the following criteria:

Grade Level

Be enrolled in 11th or 12th grade on the first day of the semester in which the course is offered. This includes rising 11th and 12th graders for summer session courses.

GPA Requirement

Maintain a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA.

In some cases, a student’s performance in high school math courses will also be considered for appropriate placement.

Students interested in taking English or mathematics courses should complete the Accuplacer, SAT, or ACT. The results from one of these assessments will help Bowie State University determine the appropriate course placement. Minimum required scores are outlined in the Appendix of the Dual Enrollment Handbook.

Placement into math or English courses will be based on the scores submitted with the Dual Enrollment application. In addition, a copy of the student’s current high school transcript must be submitted along with the application materials.

How to Apply

All prospective and continuing dual enrollment students must complete the following steps to be considered for registration.

Step 1: Complete the PGCPS/BSU Dual Enrollment Application

Students must first complete the Spring 2027 PGCPS/BSU Dual Enrollment Application. This application is required for PGCPS to fund the student’s dual enrollment coursework.

Step 2: Receive Eligibility Notification

After the PGCPS/BSU application is submitted, the student and BSU will be notified of the student’s eligibility for the program. Students must await eligibility notification before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Complete the Bowie State University Dual Enrollment Admissions Application

Once eligibility is confirmed, students must complete the separate Bowie State University Dual Enrollment Admissions Application. Both applications must be completed by December 4, 2026, for Spring 2027 semester consideration.

Step 4: BSU Reviews Eligibility and Course Requests

BSU will review students’ eligibility and requested courses and determine approval based on program requirements and course availability. Additional documentation may be requested to verify eligibility or assess placement for requested courses.

Step 5: Confirm Official Enrollment

Students must verify that they have been officially enrolled in their approved BSU courses. Completing the applications or being scheduled for a course at the high school does not guarantee official university enrollment.

Important: Students must complete the applications in the order listed above. Completing both applications by December 4, 2026, is necessary to proceed with Spring 2027 registration but does not guarantee course approval or official enrollment.
