From the Middle Passage to DNA Ancestry

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

As Maryland's oldest, historically Black university, the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services, Office of Residence Life, and Office of Student Life will honor Black History Month with the 2nd Annual Middle Passage to DNA Ancestry Initiative. Last year this partnership was executed with Living DNA Ancestry-United Kingdom. In 2021, over 75 participants had the opportunity to attend the program and receive Living DNA Ancestry kit. This year we have partnered with DNA Ancestry in the United States with a goal of 100 student participation (undergraduate and graduate). At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe aspects of the Middle Passage
  • Understand the importance of tracing your family roots
  • Find more information and receive a DNA Ancestry kit and DNA Ancestry resources to complete a family tree
