Black Health, Health Disparities and the Need for Health Equity

5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

Dr. Cassandra Clayborne, an MD and currently a first-year resident and Rural Scholar in the Harpers Ferry Family Medicine Residency Program in West Virginia, will discuss health disparities and explain why health equity is a moral necessity. Dr. Clayborne, from Montgomery County in Maryland, received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bowie State University.  While at BSU, she participated in 4-years of collegiate softball and earned the honor of CIAA Woman of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30 Honoree in 2015. She attended the West Virginia University School of Medicine and was accepted into the Rural Track Program. Dr. Clayborne continues to explore her interests in rural medicine, health equity, healthcare policy and sustainable healthcare systems. And she aspires to be an advocate for disenfranchised communities with the goal of impacting healthcare legislation and building sustainable healthcare systems for low-income communities.
