She Saves the Day celebrates women of geekdom…including art, academia, media, and public service. We bring a distinct and well-rounded perspective that honors our past, present, and future as nerds. Women from all walks of life have been a vital force in saving the world in the geek community and beyond. We are experiencing a significant cultural shift in which the representations of women in comics, anime, gaming, sci-fi, Afrofuturism, speculative fiction, and fantasy are perhaps more diverse than they have ever been. Yet we are still too often reduced to a "damsel in distress" incapable of facilitating our own salvation, simultaneously burdened with the salvation and sacrifice for others. This panel explores and celebrates the contributions of women throughout the geek community including academia, pop culture, the creative arts, technology, and more.
