Mental Health First Aid

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The Mental Health First Aid® course builds skills to help adults ages 18 and older who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. The core program teaches the signs and symptoms to help identify a person who may be experiencing a mental health challenge such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, or substance-use disorder, as well as how to use the 5-step ALGEE action plan to support them.

This international public awareness curriculum works to destigmatize conversations around mental health while providing a tangible action plan for students and staff to address crisis and non-crisis mental health situations " much like CPR/first aid supports physical health situations. MHFA is proven to increase the likelihood of bystander “helping” behaviors, but also increases the learners own mental health literacy. Win-win!

This class is hosted in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health Behavioral Health Administration through a generous, multi-year grant providing free Mental Health First Aid classes to Maryland’s HBCUs. The goal? To train thousands of staff, faculty, and students in Mental Health First Aid by 2025.

These classes fill on a first come, first served basis. You may be waitlisted but this does not guarantee you a seat in the class. You will be notified via email at least one week prior to the start of class if there is a seat becomes available.

This training is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec 20 & 21, from 1:00PM-5:00PM each day. Attendance at both sessions is required to be certified.
