Leveraging Assignment Sequencing and the Writing Process for Better Student Writing in Your Course

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join BSU's CETL at 2pm on Tuesday, April 4 for the "Leveraging Assignment Sequencing and the Writing Process for Better Student Writing in Your Course" workshop.

Breaking longer written assignments down into the steps of the writing process helps students in any discipline start earlier, work thoroughly, and ultimately do better in their assignments. Teaching students the steps to a research writing project shows them how writing is produced in their discipline and gives them steps for breaking down projects in the future. In this workshop, participants will design short writing assignments that walk students through the writing process and build up to a longer written assignment. Please be prepared with an existing assignment sheet for a substantial written assignment you use in your course.

Participants will be able to:

  1.  Identify the stages of the writing process involved in written assignments in their disciplines and, specifically, in significant written assignments in their courses
  2. Create sequences of short written assignments designed to teach students how to write in their disciplines and build up to larger writing projects in their courses
