Your 21st-Century Classroom: Transparency And Building Community

When students receive regular feedback, know their grades throughout the semester, and participate in a mutually respectful classroom climate, they understand their grades and are more likely to improve consistently. This three-part series addresses methods for assessment transparency, grading efficiently, and cultivating a culture of mutual respect in the classroom. In November, Session 1 will cover using rubrics to improve grade transparency. In Spring, Session 2 will cover strategies for grading more efficiently so students receive productive, actionable feedback sooner. Also in Spring, Session 3 will cover understanding 21st-century students and the role faculty can play in fostering mutual respect and building classroom community.
