Unraveling Ethnic Tensions: Exploring the Evolution of Afro and Indo-Guyanese Dynamics Amid Political Instability and the Oil Boom

5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

Guyana has been plagued by ethnic tensions and political instability between Afro and Indo-Guyanese brought by colonialism, and the drive for dominance and control in the modern period. This presentation examines how the aforementioned dynamics have evolved, and how both ethnic groups have coped with this ethnic polarization at a time when multinational corporations have discovered massive amounts of oil and gas which will transform Guyana into a “rich” country.
