Intersectionality Affirmations Ball

5:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Bowie State University Office of Residence Life and Housing, Office of Multicultural Programs and Services, ATOD and the LGBTQIA Resource Center is hosting the 2nd Annual BSU Intersectionality Affirmations Ball: A Golden Renaissance.

The purpose of this program is to provide our students with the opportunity to redo their High School Prom and show up will all their intersecting social identities irrespective of their abilities, age, nationality, gender identity/gender expression, race, religion, sexual orientation, or social class. Over the last several years a number of traditions were cancelled due to the global pandemic. Equally important, some of our students who did attend prom had to hide an aspect of their social identity (e.g.- sexual orientation) and this Intersectionality Affirmations Ball fosters an environment where students can show up as their authentic self regardless of their race, gender/gender expression, ability, etc.

The Intersectionality Affirmations Ball will highlight the importance of loving oneself and the best way to honor the ancestors is starting with uplifting heroes around us daily at BSU.

During the Ball current student leaders and professional staff will be acknowledged as unsung heroes (Golden Renaissance style with staff that go above the call of duty to make everyone feel welcomed and inclusive practices. Free giveaways and dinner will be provided. Join us for this transformative and inclusive celebration.

This event has been endorsed by the following:White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Human Rights Campaign, African Ancestry, BSU Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drug (ATOD) and Office of Auxiliary Services (Student Center).
