African Ancestry Identity Experience

5:00 PM - 7:30 PM

The Office of Multicultural Programs and Services is excited to launch a new social identity program in honor of Women's History Month, African Ancestry Identity Experience. Research studies indicate that students are more likely to achieve higher educational attainment with a racial identity than their peers who are race neutral or peers who distant themselves from their ancestral homeland (Marsh, 2010).

Bowie State University is one of the first HBCUs to intentionally partner with African Ancestry to provide students with this transformative opportunity to discover their ancestral roots. Unlike other DNA testing agencies, African Ancestry is the world leader in tracing maternal and paternal lineages of African descent having helped more than 1,000,000 people re-connect with the roots of their family tree.

Join us as we reaffirm more than thirty million descendants of American slavery and start the healing journey with the African Ancestry Identity Experience. All student participants must register and complete a short essay on how this discovery will shape you and your family history.
