Kareem Y. Fernández serves as the Student Success Coordinator for the College of Business at Bowie State University, where he leads data-informed initiatives that strengthen academic achievement, retention, and holistic student development. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Bowie State, with research interests in student success, leadership development, and higher education administration.

A native of Puerto Rico and raised near Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Fernández was commissioned as an Infantry officer through the ROTC program at Norwich University in 2004 and later transitioned to Military Intelligence. Over a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Army, he served in key leadership and operational roles with the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Infantry Division, and United States Special Operations Command. He completed multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Korea, and concluded his military service as Chair of the Military Science Department at Bowie State University, where he mentored and developed future Army officers.

He is the recipient of multiple Bronze Star Medals, Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and Meritorious Service Medals. He is a graduate of the United States Army Ranger School, the Defense Strategy Course, and the Army’s Master Educator Course.

Mr. Fernández holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Norwich University, a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University, and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville. Driven by a lifelong commitment to service and education, he brings a mission-driven and student-centered approach to empowering Bowie State students as they navigate their academic and professional journeys.
