Online Policy Document

Currently drafted in full by a multi-stakeholder committee and under review within the shared governance process, the purpose of the Bowie State University Online Policy Document is to assure quality online learning, whether that be via courses, credentialing, certificates, or full degree programs. Adherence to the Online Policy Document ensures Bowie State University provides rigorous and effective methods/avenues for extending educational opportunities while keeping within the mission of the university as a premier HBCU institution.

This policy document is organized into five chief quadrants, covering the overall institutional strategic plan, procedural guidelines aimed at the creation and delivery of full programs, performance and professionalism standards regarding both course design and faculty behavior/expectations, virtual support services for our diverse student communities, and student life. Adherence to the principles will lead to the development of strong academic standards with the same academic integrity, rigor, and high expectations across all online courses and offerings as is expected in BSU’s traditional face-to-face modality. Bowie State aims to create an online learning environment that is not just globally first-class according to any institutional measures, but is also faithful to the unique history, traditions, culture, and environment associated with its rightful heritage as a proud and ancient HBCU. Bowie State aims to have its online learning platforms reflect that heritage as powerfully and proudly as its campus culture does.
