Bowie State University’s faculty and staff continue on the race to excellence with their achievements both on campus and in the community. Highlighted are some of their successes along with overall university wins in recent months.

BSU Professor Honored with Board of Regents Faculty Award for Prolific and Creative Playwriting

Professor Bob Bartlett’s work has received high accolades from the University System of Maryland Board of Regents as a recipient of the 2022 Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Research, or Creative Activity. He is the only artist awarded in this category. The faculty awards are the highest honor presented by the board to exemplary faculty members within the system. Seventeen awards were given this year to faculty from the 12 USM institutions.

The Daily Record Announces 2022 Maryland's Top 100 Women

The Daily Record has named Dr. Jacqueline Hill, chair of the Department of Nursing at Bowie State University to its 2022 listing of Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

BSU Staff Member Receives Prestigious USM Board of Regents Award

The University System of Maryland (USM) announced earlier this month that Tanya Jones, executive assistant and operations manager for President Aminta Breaux, has been recognized as a recipient of the USM Board of Regents Staff Award for her extraordinary public service to the university and the greater community. The award is the highest honor presented by the Regents to exemplary staff members.

 Bowie State’s Rochelle Daniel and Karima Haynes Write Book on Internships

A new book by Bowie State University communications professors Karima Haynes and Rochelle Daniel aims to help students navigate the path to successful internships in today’s competitive communications industry.

 

BSU Wins

Senators Ben Cardin and Chis Van Hollen Announce $4 Million in Funds for BSU

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) announced that $3 million in congressionally directed funding will be provided to support the Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC) small business development, with an additional $1 million for the university to develop a new laboratory for hydroponics and aquaponics research.

Restorative Justice and Practice Institute: Congressman Steny Hoyer Says Restorative Justice Practices Are Necessary to Heal

The Restorative Justice and Practice Institute conference brought together Bowie State University faculty and community leaders to discuss strategies that will enable individuals and organizations to heal. An important presenter at this year’s conference was Congressman Steny Hoyer, who has supported the institute by championing $750,000 in Congressionally designated community funding.
